📋 Conducting Good Interviews is Hard
How many times have you walked into an interview as the interviewer feeling just a bit unsure? Interviewing is tough, and the truth is, most of us aren’t formally trained for it. Does this sound familiar? If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone. HR professionals often find themselves navigating interviews, trying to ask the right questions, gauge responses, and ultimately make a fair decision. And the stakes are high—choosing the right candidate can make or break a team’s success.
And beyond you interviewing for HR professionals, you have to help other hiring managers learn how to conduct interviews so that they select the best qualified candidate for their team.
But what if you had a coach that could guide you through every step?
That’s where AI comes in. Imagine using AI to coach you through the entire interview process. You can provide a job description, have AI simulate the interviewee’s responses, and even generate possible follow-up questions. It’s like having a personal interview assistant, helping you refine your approach, tailor questions, and even improve how you evaluate candidates. Not only does this make interviews more effective, but it also helps you become a more confident and insightful interviewer.
And you don’t need specific AI tools. Check out the prompt below to see how you can quickly set up your AI interview coach using any AI tool like ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.
🤖 AI as the Perfect Interview Companion
Let’s face it—there’s a lot that can be missed during an interview. You’re trying to listen, take notes, evaluate responses, and stay on track. That’s a lot to juggle! AI can act as your personal coach, helping you prep by simulating interview responses based on the role you're hiring for. All you need to do is feed the AI with the job description, and it will play the role of the interviewee. From there, it’ll not only provide thoughtful responses, but it will also suggest possible follow-up questions to dig deeper or clarify points.
And here’s the fun part—you get to choose which follow-up questions to ask, and AI will continue responding based on your choices. It’s an interactive experience that helps sharpen your interviewing skills in real time. Sound like something you wish you had before you jumped into your last interview?
🛠️ Why Most Interviews Fall Short and How AI Can Help
One of the biggest reasons interviews don’t always go as planned is because many interviewers simply aren’t trained for it. It’s not something we practice often, and sometimes, we don’t realize the impact of certain questions—or lack of questions—on the interview outcome. AI, however, gives you the chance to practice, learn, and adjust your approach. By refining your interview technique, you not only become better at asking the right questions but also at identifying the best candidate for the job.
AI can also help reduce bias. We all know that bias can creep into interviews, even when we’re trying our best to remain objective. With AI offering neutral suggestions for follow-up questions or different ways to phrase questions, you can be more confident that the process remains as fair and structured as possible. 💡

Why HR Professionals Should Be Using AI for Interviews
So, why should you, as an HR professional, start using AI in your interview process? Here are three key reasons:
1. AI Increases Interviewing Confidence and Accuracy
By practicing with AI before a real interview, you’ll be better prepared, more confident, and able to think on your feet. AI’s ability to simulate responses based on a specific job description helps you sharpen your focus on what matters most during the interview. Instead of fumbling through the process, you’ll have a structured approach, making sure that important details aren’t missed. This can lead to more accurate hiring decisions and a better overall candidate experience.
2. AI Helps Tailor the Process to Each Role
Every role is different, and that means each interview should be too. AI allows you to customize the interview for the position you’re hiring for by analyzing the job description and adjusting the simulated responses accordingly. This helps you make sure that your questions are relevant and that you’re truly assessing the candidate’s fit for that specific role, rather than using generic questions that may not uncover key insights.
3. AI Saves Time and Reduces Bias
Think of how much time you spend preparing for interviews—reviewing resumes, crafting questions, and trying to anticipate what a candidate might say. AI can streamline this process by offering pre-generated questions, follow-up responses, and interview simulations. This frees up your time for other important tasks. And by having AI suggest neutral, bias-free questions, you can focus on the content of the responses rather than inadvertently introducing bias into the interview process.
Takeaways:
AI can act as your personal interview coach, helping you structure and refine your questions for better results.
Simulating interviews with AI helps you tailor questions to each role, ensuring you don’t miss important insights.
AI saves time, reduces bias, and increases your interviewing confidence—making it a valuable tool for every HR professional.
The interview process doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With AI as your coach, you can enter interviews feeling prepared and confident. Paul’s expertise in crafting effective prompts can guide you on how to get the best results from AI, making your interviews more structured, focused, and ultimately more successful. 🎯
